DMSP Satellite Identified flaws and obsolete assumptions in mission planning software. Developed a number of OS macros to work around known bugs and reduce man-hours required to complete tasks. Worked with contractors to support software maintenance. No top-level requirements document existed for the planning software--worked extensively with contractors to develop new top-level requirements to support development of replacement software.

Completely revised training methods for key tasks, introducing scenarios for in-depth learning and covering additional tasks and anomaly resolution methods. Re-engineered planning operations by discarding obsolete procedures.

Reduced data losses from ground antenna downtimes by two-thirds by pursuading Onizuka AFB schedulers to arrange maintenance around key DMSP support times. Evaluated launch windows for new spacecraft to determine interference with current constellation. Launch shifted to better day in response.
