SCA Arms

Lady Meghan and Brendan

KeltHaven was created as a household name for us in the SCA. What's that?

The Society for Creative Anachronism is "an international organization dedicated to researching and recreating pre-17th century European history". Yep, that's what the SCA Web Page says. To us, it's also a source of fun, new friends, and much learning. It's tournaments and dances, courts and merchants. It's the venue for Laura to increase her textile skills and for Karl to learn heavy weapons fighting. It's a world of honor and courtesy where Lady Meghan and Lord Kevin are consorts, each inspiring the other to reach for greater heights. It's home.

Arms of the
Barony of Lyondemere Lady Meghan and Lord Kevin (Laura and Karl) currently live in the Barony of Lyondemere, in the south bay area of Los Angeles, California. This is in the Kingdom of Caid. Meghan is the Minister of Arts & Sciences for the barony, and Kevin is the Deputy Minister for Children, and runs the baronial boffer events. Arms of the Kingdom of Caid

Laura/Meghan has been in the SCA since 1991. She received her Award of Arms at Fall Crown Tourney in Altavia in 1992. She was inactive for a time, what with Brendan's birth and all, but has happily returned to the Society. She received her Harp Argent for weaving at Lyondemere Anniversary, July 2001, and also received the Order of the Lyon's Paw of Lyondemere, a baronial service award.

Lady Meghan's Arms

Laura is Lady Meghan Fiona Paget. Her arms are "Azure, a bend sinister argent, in bend three dragonflies bendwise sinister counterchanged." (to the left) Her badge is "Azure, a dragonfly bendwise sinister, fieldless." (to the right) We fly a banner with these arms from our pavilion. Also, Brendan wears a favor with Meghan's badge displayed prominently on it. "If lost, please return to. . ." Or possibly that should be, "when found, submit bill for damages to. . ."

Karl joined his SCA in 1999, introduced by Laura. His SCA name is Lord Kevin MacColin O'Gallagher. He received his Award of Arms at Lyondemere Anniversary, July 2000, and received the Order of the Lyon's Paw of Lyondemere, a baronial service award, the next year. His arms have passed - "Vert, a comet bendwise or within an orle of trefoils argent."

Meghan, Kevin, and Brendan at a Coronation

Meghan enjoys the arts in the SCA - she spins, does inkle weaving, card weaving, lucet work, pysanky, and she is learning calligraphy and bobbin lace. She is learning to play the harp, and has played at SCA events.

Both Meghan and Kevin are interested in SCA dance. Kevin is a heavy weapons fighter, who first fought for Meghan at the Unbelted Tournament in Gyldenholt in late January 2000 (on Meghan's birthday!). He also fought for Meghan in Spring 2000 Crown Tourney. Meghan is very proud of him, and is pleased to have him fight for her on the field of honor. His favor was his surcoat, which carries Meghan's badge. (As his own device was still in the process of passing. Now that it's passed, he has a new surcoat - more pictures up soon!)
