The Darach Pirate Tourney, Aug 1998 - and the Loot a Figher Contest
It was recently the pleasure of Kevin O'Gallagher and Lady Meghan Fiona Paget to attend the Darach Pirate Tourney in August, 1998. We were accompanied by a group from the Shire of Carreg Wen, and our friend from the Shire of the Isles, Dawn, soon to be registering as Eleanor. It was a lovely site, right on the ocean, and a beautiful day for a tourney, much cooler than inland areas!
One of the contests of the day was the Loot-A-Fighter contest for the ladies.
This was to take place direcly after the afternoon melee. Finding a fighter to agree
to be looted was difficult, and there were more ladies willing to loot than fighters.
Dawn and I agreed to team up, and were searching in vain for a fighter - even offering
to bribe them with the mock money that was being bet with by fighters throughout the
day. Finally we found our fighter - the Lady Tierney
Here is a series of pictures showing Lady Tierney fighting in the melee:

Once all the fighters were dead, the looters were released. Lady Tierney had told us how her armor was removed, and we had great hopes of getting her stripped down as far as she had agreed to be. We had 2 minutes to get it done.

We didn't get as far as we'd hoped. Those straps are a lot harder to unfasten than they look! So we didn't win - the winners were a team of 3 ladies who really stripped their fighter down to his unmentionables. They won a beautiful large amber necklace with a really impressive amber teardrop pendant. They declared Dawn and I the runners-up, and awarded us a smaller amber necklace. Dawn ceded it to me - my first amber!
Our thanks to Lady Tierney for letting us loot her, and our thanks to Countess Albra and the other lady (sorry I didn't catch her name - I believe she's a noted craftswoman of Darach, runs weaving workshops that I hope to go to someday) for running the contest. And my thanks to Dawn for having such fun with me.
