Untitled - 9/26/89

(written in college in Michigan)

The cold comes slamming
into the school year
with chilling breakneck speed.

As quickly as fall term returning
Crushed my freer summer days,
So has the chill wind of early winter
Blown the summer warmth away.

Leaving me with ever-chilled feet,
Bundled against what winter's blown,
Stiff and unmoving in my layers,
Muffled against the world, alone.

Now and then I escape the outer cold
But I still feel the frostbite in my soul.
